Day Three - Victoria - Castle and afternoon tea

September 3rd started with a surprise from the owner and staff of Marketa's B & B - flowers, mimosas and chocolates.  Great way to start the day.

 First stop today is Craigdarroch Castle, home of coal baron Robert Dunsmuir.  "There are four floors of exquisite stained glass, intricate woodwork and lavish Victorian-era furnishings.  Sadly, Robert passed away before the castle was completed so only his wife, 3 daughters and 2 orphaned grandchildren ever lived on the original 28-acre estate", info from a brochure.  The estate was eventually sold and most of the acreage around it has been built up with private homes.

Next stop was Point Ellice House for a tour and afternoon tea.  The furnishings were all original, the O'Reilly family never got rid of anything.  Our tour guide was dressed in period costume and told the story of the home in the voice of Mrs. O'Reilly.  A great way to learn a little history!

Tea was delicious, especially the scones and Devonshire cream (cream cheese with powdered sugar and flavorings).

The rooms looked full to overflowing but our tour guide said there was more in the basement and attic!

 Had a soak and bubble bath in our in-room jacuzzi tub one night.  Thank goodness Ron was there to pull me out!

We drove through Beacon Hill Park, near our lodging and took a few pictures.  The flowers were beautiful, somewhat like Butchart Gardens, but on a much smaller scale.

Next stop was Christ Church Cathedral.

 Then a ride along the coast before our anniversary dinner at Il Covo for lasagne.  As soon as we were seated, our waiter showed up with champagne - perfect ending to a perfect day.
