To paraphrase a title from my friend, Maureen, I'm calling this our Sunny Southwest Adventure. We began it on August 31, 2015 in Phoenix, Arizona. We arrived at our hotel, DoubleTree Suites, around 11 a.m. and decided to visit the Desert Botanical Gardens to see one of the world's finest displays of cacti and other succulents. We had been warned that it would be HOT (thanks Marty Mitchell and the shuttle driver) but we decided to go for it anyway. Grabbed our water bottles and cameras and enjoyed a couple of hours walking around the gardens. 100 degrees in Phoenix may be dry heat but it's still HOT!!!
After dinner we joined our group of fellow travelers on our Caravan tour for orientation and met a couple from Fort Worth, Felipe and Patty. We were the only Texans on the trip.
Back in our room we heard a lot of noise and looked out to see lightning and rain. This storm was unusual for Phoenix and there were several trees down as we left the city the next morning. We were told their annual rainfall is around 7 inches - they got a lot of it that night!
