Heading out to Grand Canyon on the morning of Sept. 1st, we make our first stop at Montezuma Castle, site of 12th and 13th century Native American cliff dwellings.
The bark on these trees looks like a patchwork quilt.
The terrain begins to change as we head to Sedona for our lunch stop. Found a pizza place and then wandered around Sedona, admiring the statues in front of almost every shop. Enjoyed an ice cream cone and visiting with Felipe and Patty, thinking we had 15 minutes til time to board the bus. Not! We were late! Embarrassing to be last on the bus and late - we'll try hard not to let that happen again.
Photo op at a rest stop.
Our first view of the canyon - it's just grand!
Clouds were moving in and we did get a bit of rain before dinner. We stayed in the Thunderbird Lodge and our room was on the rim side of the building. Waiters grilled our steaks to order for dinner. Dessert was a delicious apple crumble pie.
