Day 3 - Yellowstone - July, 15, 2017 - Devils Tower, Sheridan & Little Bighorn Battlefield, Billings, Montana

We headed west through Wyoming today and our first stop was Devils Tower which was behind the Devils Tower Trading Post.

We continued on to the old western cowboy town of Sheridan where we had lunch at the Sheridan Inn.  One of our servers told us about the history of the Inn.   Historic Sheridan Inn gave adventurous travelers a taste of Eastern luxury in the West. Through the years the Inn has remained a hub of activity offering elegant New Year s Eve balls and the town s first electric lights. Buffalo Bill Cody sat on the front porch of the Inn auditioning acts to join the Buffalo Bill s Wild West show. (copied from the Inn's webpage).

This bar is original to the Inn.

Lobby with beautiful stone fireplace and several wildlife specimens.
In 2013 Bob and Dana Townsend became the newest owners of the Inn bringing 21st century luxury to the 19th century building. (copied from the Inn's webpage)  Each dormer was a single room and there were shared baths.  Remodeled to allow for less rooms but each has a private bath.

After lunch, we continued on to the Little Bighorn Battlefield.  We opted to pay for the bus tour to the battlefield rather than hearing the ranger at the Visitor Center.  Our guide was Rusty, 20 years old, and a descendant of the Crow Indians.  He gave a very good talk about the battle.  He was wearing a necklace with an elk's tooth on it.  I asked about it and pointed to it and he jumped back, said it was sacred, had been passed down in his family and women could not touch it.

As we rolled into Billings, Montana for the night, our guide told us about the feral domestic rabbits that are all over town.   We snapped a few pics of them by our hotel after dinner (pizza at Old Chicago Pizza).
