2015 Colorado Adventures Day 5 - July 7

We're headed home today with a stop in Alamosa at the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.  We have had rain all morning but were fortunate to have the rain stop for a couple of hours while we were visiting the park.

There is a deer in the middle of this photo - need to click on it to see him.

Someone took our picture with the sand dunes behind us and also with the mountain range behind us.   The valley is a river in early spring when the snow melts, then gradually dries up over the summer months.  We were told the sand is continually washing down to the river level and then being blown back up to the dunes by the wind.
