Alaska - Day 6 - Anchorage to Seward - Aug. 30, 2012

 After breakfast at the Muffin Man, we head out for the morning at the Anchorage Museum.  The landscaping around the museum was beautiful and the rain doesn't bother us at all this morning.  There were excellent exhibits of the different cultures of Alaska and some great specimens of the wildlife.

I had some fun in the Imagination room for children of all ages.  

We snack for lunch on our coach as we head for Seward.  After an hour and a half drive, we arrive at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center which is home to some rescued wild animals.  We see two brown bears and a grizzly, a bald eagle, caribou, and a herd of wood bison.  The herd of bison was being raised at the center with a plan to release them next year to re-populate the area.  The two bears were brother and sister orphans, bottle-fed, and will always live at the center.  They could not be released back to the wild because of their time with humans.  

The rain has moved in so we don't hang out and take many pictures.  We do have time for the mandatory visit to a gift shop.  There's a regulation in Alaska that states there has to be a gift shop within 100 yards of every tourist attraction or so we were told!

This piece of art was in the Roadhouse restaurant which was at our lodging for the night (Seward Windsong Lodge).  I enjoyed a huge Plain Jane Burger there rather than trekking back to Seward in the rain.  We turned in early, hoping to get a good night's sleep before our wake-up call at 6:00 a.m. on Friday.
